Why stop and reduce tension in line when hooking fish on the troll? Basic trolling rule is to do the opposite of what you do, reduces risk of pulled hooks.

Years ago, I was paddling with my friends who are kayak outfitters, acting as an assistant tour guide with a group they had in Fort De Soto, Florida. I spotted a little baby bat struggling in the current, but was hesitant to grab it, remembering what happened to Cujo and thinking about rabies. So I fished him out with my paddle, took off my PFD, secured it under some deck bungies, and placed little fledermaus on top to dry out and warm up. By the time we got to shore he seemed better, so I grabbed a pair of gloves from a first aid kit, and left him clinging on the side of a palm tree, as high as I could reach. I would like to think he went on to have a full bat life. A job well done in saving that little raccoon.
